PLAINWELL, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Emergency officials say the Kalamazoo River’s water levels are dangerously high, due to heavy spring rains and the major winter thaw.
Specifically, the stretch from Morrow Dam to Plainwell is reported to be flowing faster than normal, and is littered with downed branches and debris.
Officials have already rescued several boaters and kayakers, and are advising “urgent caution” to people looking to boat on the river.
And this problem is not just on the Kalamazoo River. Officials expect all 5 of Michigan’s Great Lakes to hit high water levels this year as well as several other bodies of water throughout the region.
Another report shows how deadly the Great Lakes’ waters have been this year.
