BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Battle Creek Fire Marshall is investigating an early morning blaze.
A taxi driver noticed smoke coming out of a window air conditioner on the second floor of the Masonic Center on East Michigan Avenue around 3 a.m. Tuesday and called authorities.
18 firefighters and 2 command officers from the Battle Creek Fire Department responded to the blaze.
They used a thermal imaging camera to see the heat from inside the room and discovered a large hole in the first floor.
Crews extinguished the fire that was found in the basement, checked for hot spots or extensions, and ventilated the building.
Nobody was injured but it’s still unclear what sparked the fire.
