BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Battle Creek Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of a fire at a vacant home on the 4th of July.
Crews were called to 10 Oneita Street North near Greenwood Avenue around 11:30 p.m. Thursday where they found heavy flames in the back of the single-family structure.
Firefighters struggled to access the blaze because several vehicles were parked outside for a large 4th of July party and a live electrical line was down in the backyard, and Consumers Energy was taking over an hour to respond.
One fire lieutenant was treated at the scene for heat exhaustion.
The vacant home has experienced a fire before.
18 firefighters and two command officers responded to the blaze and officials are looking into the cause.
