HASTINGS TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Hastings man is dead after a single car crash in Barry County.
It happened just before 1 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of M-37 and M-79 in Hastings Township.
Deputies say that 44-year-old Matthew Rick was traveling westbound on M-79 when he blew through a stop sign, hitting a pole in a marsh area on the side of the road.
He was declared dead at the scene and later transported to WMED in Kalamazoo for an autopsy.
Officials believe speed was a factor in the crash but it’s still unknown if alcohol or drugs were used.
