KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) –Investigators are still trying to figure out what sparked a fire that gutted a church near downtown Kalamazoo about 2 months ago.
The Public Safety Fire Marshall says light smoke could be seen for a couple hours coming from the pastor’s office window of the Open Door Church of God in Christ on Phelps Avenue back on May 15th before the window broke and heavy flames began to grow.
It took 25 firefighters about 4-hours to extinguish the blaze.
Nobody was injured and church’s pastor did not report any earlier electrical issues, construction projects, possible fraud attempts, or even any known enemies that could have triggered the blaze.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives are still investigating the cause.
