The Kalamazoo County Treasurer’s Office has received fake currency for the second time this month, according to an official press release.
On Tuesday, a fake $10 bill that was almost identical to a real one was used for payment at the County Administration building, but was detected by improper texture and size.
Treasurer Mary Balkema is advising all employees in the area to be diligent about checking bills worth $10 or more.
“We know that if fraudulent currency is making its way to the County, it is impacting local business owners and citizens,” Balkema said in the press release.
If a fake bill is passed, Balkema advises retainment of the bill, followed by an alert to police.
