PLAINWELL, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Plainwell community is mourning the loss of their long-serving mayor.
Mayor Rick Brooks, who was the mayor since 2000, passed away last Thursday at the age of 68.
The City of Plainwell posted on their Facebook page saying,
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Plainwell Mayor Rick Brooks. Mayor Brooks passed away Thursday evening surrounded by his family. Rick has served as Mayor since 2000 and served the City of Plainwell with unmatched love for his community. Mayor Brooks was a constant and passionate advocate for the city he served. He loved the festivals and parades and was a champion for many of the businesses and non-profits and “The Christmas Tree Lighting will never be the same. The city asks that everyone keep Mayor Brooks’ loving wife Theresa and his family members in your prayers during this difficult time.”
Mayor Brooks was also an animal control officer in Allegan County and worked with the Plainwell School Recreation program on top of the many other ways he served the community.
