KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Institute of Arts has been recognized with accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), the highest honor an American museum can achieve.
According to a press release by the KIA, the AAM Accreditation Commission announced that the museum would receive such an award earlier this month.
“This is a very important honor, not only for our institution, but really for our entire community because it reveals what a community can accomplish together through an investment in an instution like the KIA,” KIA executive director Belinda Tate said.
The press release also says that out of an estimated 33,000 national museums, “just over 1,070 are currently accredited,” that only 37 museums are accredited in Michigan, and only 18% of museums in the Midwest have achieved this recognition.
