ST. JOSEPH TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A man accused of pulling the trigger, killing a U.S. Army sergeant during a planned ambush on New Year’s Eve in Berrien County is admitting to the incident.
Yesterday 24-year-old Jeremy Cuellar, the lover of Kemia Hassel, pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder for the death of Kemia’s husband, 23-year-old Tyrone Hassel.
Sergeant Hassel was home for the holidays and was fatally shot as he was taking a plate of food from a party to his wife at a home in St. Joseph Township.
Cuellar faces a minimum of 65 years to up to life in prison if convicted.
Kemia Hassel was also found guilty of 1st-degree premeditated murder earlier this month.
The two were reportedly having an affair and their motive was to finance that relationship with the Army’s death benefit from Sergeant Hassel’s murder.
