KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will play a role in this Saturday’s Kalamazoo Valley Foodways Symposium, as it continues to push opportunities to buy, sell, and market locally grown foods.
MDARD’s Farm to Family Program was launched in Fiscal Year 2025 to offer grants, networking opportunities, and marketing consultations to farmers, food businesses, and other local food supply chain stakeholders.
The Kalamazoo Valley Foodways Symposium is an annual two-day event which this year will focus on the food culture of Southeast Asia. There will be presentations and demonstrations Friday evening at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, and Saturday at the Kalamazoo Valley Community College Marilyn J. Schlack Culinary and Allied Health Building.
There will be other Farm to Family events this month in Lansing, East Lansing, Hart, and Hancock.
Last week the Farm to Family Program launched a new “Regenerative Value Chains” grant opportunity to support Michigan farmers who employ regenerative agriculture practices. To date, the program awarded over $3.4 million of grant funding to create new market opportunities for Michigan farmers and expand Michigan families’ access to fresh, locally grown and raised foods.
