SCHOOLCRAFT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Congressman Tim Walberg will be honoring Michael Fry of Kalamazoo County as Veteran of the Month for April.
Walberg will give Fry the recognition next Tuesday at the American Legion Post 475 in Schoolcraft at 3 p.m.
Fry enlisted in the U.S. Marines when he was a high school senior and served from 2005 to 2018. During his career, he was a Signals Intelligence Analyst, a Special Intelligence Systems Communicator, and a PersianFarsi CryptoLinguist.
He deployed to Iraq with the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and later to Afghanistan with Special Operations Task Force–West in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
Fry attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in September 2018 after more than a decade of service.
Following his military career, he worked for Michigan State Police as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst supporting the Southwest Enforcement Team and assisting multijurisdictional efforts to combat transnational organized crime and major drug trafficking networks. He now serves as a Criminal Intelligence Analyst with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
In service to his community, Fry received the Kalamazoo County Veteran of the Year award in 2024 and the Marine of the Year award from the Marine Corps League’s Kalamazoo Detachment #879 in 2025.
