LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Cannabis Industry Association has filed another lawsuit against the state Treasury Department over the 24% wholesale tax.
They say in the suit that the tax is unconstitutional.
Spokesperson Rose Tantraphol says cannabis products are being taxed multiple times and “that results in something called tax pyramiding.”
Voters approved a 10% excise tax on top of the 6% sales tax when they approved legalizing recreational marijuana in 2018.
The 24% wholesale tax took effect January 1st as new revenue to fix roads in the state.
