State Senate bill would mandate driving tests for people 75 and older

LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Senate is considering a bill that would require all drivers over 75-years-old to have to undergo a driving skills test, written knowledge test, and a vision exam every four years to renew or obtain a driver’s license.

Once they turn 85, the tests would be required every year.

Michigan Traffic Crash Facts data from 2024 shows drivers who are at least 65 were involved in 279 deadly crashes and over 11,000 injury crashes.

The bill is before the Senate Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
