GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Longtime west Michigan TV meteorologist Terri DeBoer is running for Congress.
DeBoer filed paperwork as a Republican challenging incumbent Democratic Congresswoman Hillary Scholten on Wednesday.
She says as an outsider, she wants to focus on restoring “fiscal sanity” to Washington, DC and on border security.
DeBoer says she became interested in politics when President Reagan spoke to her senior class and thought to herself if she had the opportunity to serve the country, she would step up.
She adds west Michigan is “about solving the problems that we face, no matter who has those ideas, no matter what side of the aisle they happen to sit on.”
Scholten is the first Democrat elected to represent the Grand Rapids area in Congress since the 1970s and is in her second term.
