CENTREVILLE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office will host two Boater Safety Education Courses in April.
The first will be April 4th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the second on April 18th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Each free session will be held at the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office Training Center at 602 East Main Street in Centreville.
The courses are limited to a maximum of 30 students for each.
The course will be taught by the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Division and will provide instruction on boating operation and safety; environmental concerns; common causes of boating accidents and how to prevent them; and navigation rules and regulations.
Upon successful completion of the course and passing a written exam, students will receive their official Boater Safety Certificate.
Anyone born after June 30, 1996 is required to obtain a boater safety certificate to operate a motorized boat, and people born after December 31, 1978 has to obtain a certificate to operate a personal watercraft, more commonly called a Jet Ski or WaveRunner.
