LANSING, MI — University of Michigan Health Sparrow said Thursday it is investing more than $140 million in two new facilities in Lansing, replacing the old Saint Lawrence campus with a behavioral health hospital and an ambulatory surgery center.
The hospital system says the projects will improve access to much-needed mental health resources and create a lower-cost setting for certain surgical procedures in mid-Michigan.
“The investments reflect University of Michigan Health’s commitment to improve access to care for everyone, including the most vulnerable. The behavioral health hospital will include the area’s only psychiatric beds for children and adolescent patients, an age group experiencing a skyrocketing number of cases,” according to a press release.
The $83 million behavioral health hospital will include 64 beds for inpatient care and partial hospitalization programming, serving elderly, adult, and children.
