PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Portage residents who are still upset by the city’s single waste hauler contract that takes effect this year have submitted petition signatures to the city clerk as they try to put it to a vote.
The city council awarded a five-year, $29-million contract to Waste Management for trash and recycling service starting March 1st back in July.
City officials say the deal will save residents money on trash and would cut down on road damage from the garbage trucks for three different companies.
Homes will be charged just over $14 a month and the city says people will save around $2-million collectively every year.
