KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – About 4,500 Consumers Energy customers in Kalamazoo will lose power for up to two hours early Friday morning as the utility works with ITC Michigan to make upgrades to substation equipment.
The overnight work will impact customers in the area around West Main Street near the on/off ramps for U.S. 131 from 12:30 a.m. Friday, December 19 until as late as 2:30 a.m.
“We’re committed to powering the lives of families and businesses in the Kalamazoo community with safe, reliable energy,” said Steve Herrygers, senior executive director of high voltage distribution. “Working alongside ITC Michigan, we’re strengthening the electric grid to support our customers and ensure dependable service for everyone who calls Kalamazoo home.”
Postcards have been mailed to affected customers in the area. If work needs to be rescheduled, the backup date is Sunday, December 21 from 3:00-5:00 a.m.
Customers should call Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050 if they have questions or concerns.
