KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Kalamazoo will be holding a public hearing on their 2026 budget this evening and giving early approval to the item that may affect residents most, another increase in water and sewer bills.
Overall spending by the city will be $344.4 million in 2026. That’s down 11.4% from last year, because expenditures from a major state drinking water revolving fund grant are being carried forward.
No program cuts are planned or millage increases proposed.
Approval of the proposed 6.5% water and a 9% sewer rate hikes will be decided this evening, so they can take effect with the new year.
Final approval of the 2026 city budget is set for the commission’s first meeting on January 5th.
