PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The city of Portage has invested almost $1.9 million into Lakeview Park with the upgrades being funded mostly by American Rescue Plan Act dollars.
They have expanded the fishing piers, added new lighting, corn hole and ping pong areas, a memorial garden, and a boardwalk.
Lakeview Park was recognized recently by the southwest Michigan branch of the American Public Works Association as “Project of the Year.”
The cost of the renovations was $1.87-million, with the city spending $1 million in ARPA funds for the work, and the rest of the money came from private donors and Portage’s capital improvement fund.
Future work includes restroom renovations and adding a kayak launch.
