KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A fun celebration of ugly Christmas sweaters is also serving as a fundraiser for a Kalamazoo organization later today.
The 11th annual Ugly Sweater Event will take place from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Bell’s Brewery. Tickets are now available for $30 in advance, with a limited number offered at the door for $35.
The event benefits Communities In Schools of Kalamazoo. The group says in addition to fundraising, they’re hoping to bring awareness to CIS’s whole child approach of supporting students throughout 23 local Kalamazoo schools. The approach includes providing essentials such as warm winter-wear and supplies that they say, when missing, can get in the way of learning.
This year’s event will be hosted by CIS Board Member Linnaea Thomas and will feature two Ugly Sweater Awards. The first award will recognize a sweater designed and created by one of their sweater sponsors. The second award will be determined by attendee voting and is open to any guest who wishes to participate.
Each ticket includes admission to the event, and food and beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are available for purchase on their webpage at https://ciskalamazoo.org/events/ugly-sweater-fundraiser-and-party/
Voting has already begun for the sweaters competing for the 2025 title of Ugliest Sweater. The links to vote are live now through Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Anybody can cast their vote for what they deem the best sweater. Each dollar donated in support of a sweater is considered a vote.
