KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Western Michigan University students planning to return next fall got a early preview of what room and board rates are going to look like at this week’s Board of Trustees meeting.
Normally rate hikes are considered in the summer, but Vice President for Student Affairs Diane Anderson says the opening of Golden Oaks, their newest residence hall, may attract students who want to change complexes.
She says there will be a “premium upcharge” for the 1,000 students who will live there.
The new complex, which has used green building practices to reduce the toll its had on the environment, will have features other halls don’t.
Anderson says overall rates will be going up a uniform percentage in the rest of their on-campus housing.
The higher charges will begin with the 2026 fall semester.
