KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – If it seems like fall came a little late this year, you would be right but soon all that beautiful color on the trees will leave a mess in your yard.
Kalamazoo City Manager Jim Ritsema says beginning today, residents will be able to drop off their leaves through December 12th at the city’s dump site at 322 East Stockbridge Avenue.
That is open Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
He says homeowners should rake their leaves to the curb lawn during their service period, which begins today on the west side, the second half of November on the Northside, Vine and South Central neighborhoods, and not until after Thanksgiving in the Eastside and Edison areas.
“So it’s always a challenge with Mother Nature on when the leaves fall and so we have to balance that with winter coming and snow,” says Ritsema.
This year, homeowners with late leaves may have to call and leave a request to get them picked up through December 23rd.
A schedule and a video on how to collect and prepare leaves for pickup is available at the city’s website.
