PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – What you say about today could be an indication of what kind of person you are.
That’s according to Portage city councilmember Vic Ledbetter.
He says some places may call today Columbus Day and that’s why post offices will be closed with no mail delivery, and most banks will also be shuttered.
Ledbetter says the state of Michigan recognizes this as Indigenous Peoples Day, along with 30 other states, as the movement to rename the holiday grows.
He says not everything you learned in history class was accurate.
This particular year, more federal offices, parks and facilities will be closed but that’s because of the federal government shutdown and not the holiday.
If you are Canadian, this just happens to be their Thanksgiving Day, but that’s a whole other thing.
