LANSING, MI — The Lansing Model Railroad Club is hosting two public open houses this week. You can check out over 700 square-feet of model trains running and making realistic sounds on the club’s beautiful HO scale layout complete with cities, industrial scenes, rolling country sides, mountains, and bridges.
All visitors can get a bird’s-eye view of all the action from an overhead walkway, according to a press release. Open house times include Thursday, Oct. 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 4 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Lansing Model Railroad Club is located at 5309 Old Lansing Road.
Based on Michigan scenery, the club says construction continues on the layout expansion project consisting of three different levels. This fun project allows for increased train operations, more cities and more industries, which is a great opportunity for people interested in building a model railroad to learn how it is done.
Also can tour the restored Michigan Avenue (MA) Tower that was moved to the club’s property in September 2016. Built in the early 1900s, MA Tower once controlled the Michigan Avenue railroad crossing gates and a railroad junction near downtown Lansing. It is the only surviving railroad tower from the Lansing area.
