MACKINAC ISLAND, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt is the winner of the Michigan Republican Mackinac Island Leadership Conference straw poll in the governor’s race.
The Van Buren County senator had 29.2% support, followed by former House Speaker Tom Leonard with 23.5%, former Attorney General Mike Cox with 18.5%, Congressman John James with 13.8%, and Ralph Rebant with 5.2%.
Nesbitt was the first Republican to announce his bid for governor in 2026.
The straw poll also gives Kevin Kijewski 52.6% support in the Republican Attorney General race, ahead of Eaton County Prosecutor Doug Lloyd with 33.5%, and Kalamazoo County attorney Matt DePerno third with 7.5%.
