KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools superintendent Darrin Slade says the new school year has gotten off to a great start, and now they are encouraging parents to get fully engaged as well.
Parents can do that by logging on to the district’s updated online portal.
Information Technology director Ian Haight says they are calling it “My Power Hub.” He says it’s easier to work this year, provides more ability for two-way communications with parents, and can provide real-time translation when needed.
The portal also permits parents to access information on their student’s daily schedule, attendance, grades, test scores, access to forms and push messages.
Haight says only about 40 to 50% of all parents have signed up so far but it’s still early in the school year.
Trustees were concerned about all the parents who haven’t, can’t, or won’t sign on to the digital platform.
Trustee Yvonne Payton expressed those concerns to Haight.
Board president Ti’Anna Harrison asked if there was a way parents could opt for paper report cards and was told there was not.
Haight says they still do try to send things through the mail and e-mail, their blackboard system and robocalls.
Superintendent Slade says they plan to have a series of meetings again this year to introduce parents to My Power Hub and to show them how to use it.
