KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo city commissioners will receive updates today on two major projects being pursued by city staff.
One is the redevelopment of Arcadia Creek Park, the downtown festival site, which has become obsolete and run down.
Various plans have been through the stakeholder planning process, and staff has a preferred design to make it more festival friendly.
More public planning sessions will be held before the project moves forward.
The other big plan is to turn 322 Stockbridge, the former home of the Michigan Department of Human Services, into housing as the property has been vacant for years.
The plan is to convert the big empty parking lot into a neighborhood with up to 200 homes of various styles. How many homes, and what styles are yet to be determined, but local officials are under pressure to create more affordable housing.
Staff says there are just over 11 buildable acres at the Stockbridge location.
Those updates will be made at the Committee of the Whole Meeting at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
