AUDIO: Portage residents concerned about trash costs changing

PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – There are renewed concerns in Portage about trash pickups following notification by haulers to customers that their service may soon be changing.

Two residents took those concerns to the city council this week, which is about to consider adopting a single hauler system.

Homeowners fear a lack of competition may lead to higher rates

But the council says don’t believe everything your trash hauler tells you.

Here is council member Terry Urban.

Council member Jihan Young says residents will get all the information they want about any changes before they are approved.

Mayor Patricia Randall says she has seen the bids, and homeowners will be pleased.

The council could be asked to vote on the proposal in the next month or two, and right now they seem to be leaning that way.
