KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An $860,000 project to repave Westnedge Avenue between Vine Street and Michigan Avenue in Kalamazoo will begin Monday, June 16.
City officials say the project will focus on resurfacing the roadway and upgrading traffic signals while maintaining the current lane configuration. The project is expected to be completed in mid-August.
Compared to last year’s Westnedge project, which involved a full water main replacement and extensive excavation, they say this project will be less intensive. Lane closures will be required, but traffic will be maintained throughout the project. Access to all homes and businesses will be maintained.
In addition to resurfacing, the project also includes sidewalk repairs and ADA ramp upgrades at all intersections, improved signage and crosswalks, upgraded traffic signal controllers and new signal cameras, repainting the bike lane as a buffered bike lane for added separation, and stormwater infrastructure improvements
The total project cost is $860,623, with $792,232 provided through the Michigan Department of Transportation Jurisdictional Transfer and $68,391 from local funds.
