PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Firefighters from six area fire departments had to be called to Portage to help put out a house fire in the 10000 block of South 12th Street Tuesday afternoon.
One firefighter suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from Bronson Hospital.
Portage Public Safety says they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from the home when they arrived and they rescued two cats from inside. The homeowner also was able to evacuate without injury.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Portage Fire Marshal’s Office.
Firefighters from the South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority, Mattawan Fire Department, Texas, Oshtemo, and Comstock Township fire departments helped Portage put out the flames. Kalamazoo Public Safety and the Kalamazoo and Pavilion Township fire departments covered Portage until the flames were put out.
It took just over two hours to get the fire extinguished. The call came in at 4:50 p.m.
