PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Portage City Council Tuesday is set to approve their budget for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2025.
On the agenda for the council is their $28 million general fund, including special millages for capital improvements, curbside recycling, leaf pickups, and municipal street funds.
Manager Pat McGinnis says budget discussions went smoothly, as will implementation.
“The budget represents no increase in mileage rates, some decrease in your debt, considerable capital investment.”
McGinnis also calls is “a very conservative budget.”
The city’s millage rates will remain the same, but city bills will likely go up based on home valuations.
If the proposed budget is approved, water rates will also go up 5% and sewer rates will increase 8% to fund system improvements.
