PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The board of education in Portage Public Schools has narrowed its list of finalists for superintendent to two men.
Current Portage assistant superintendent Johnny Edwards and Northwest Education Services assistant superintendent Matt Olson will be interviewed May 25.
Olson has been with the district in Traverse City since 2000, and Edwards has been Portage’s assistant superintendent since 2021.
Candidates will tour the district prior to the final interviews, and there will be an opportunity for a public meet and greet with both candidates from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Edwards will interview at 6:00 p.m., and Olson will interview at 7:15 p.m.
Interviews will take place at Portage Central High School’s Community Room.
Current superintendent Mark Bielang is retiring at the end of the school year and the board plans to have a new superintendent in place by July 1. The process has been facilitated by the Michigan Leadership Institute.
