KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Seven inmates who being transported back to the Kalamazoo County Jail from the county courthouse were left unattended in a van for almost two hours Monday.
The sheriff’s office says the court transport van was parked in a secure garage area and left there by jail staff. One of the inmates in the van reportedly kicked out a window of the passenger van to get outside, then helped the other inmates get out.
Some staff members who were involved have been placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated.
