KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – For the second time in less than a year, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety responded to a structure fire at a vacant two-story residence in the 1300 block of Hays Park Avenue.
Crews arrived on scene within two minutes of receiving the call Monday at 5:22 p.m. to find heavy smoke on the first and second floor, which turned into heavy
fire.
Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control within ten minutes of arrival. However, additional time was required to fully extinguish hot spots within the upper floor and attic areas.
Personnel remained on scene for approximately three hours to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and the scene was safe. No injuries were reported and no surrounding structures were damaged.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s Office. The previous fire at the same residence happened in June 2024.
