AUDIO: Portage city council hears about flooding issues in Ramona Park area

PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A project to install sanitary sewers in the Ramona Park area in Portage has left the residential area looking awful and homeowners want something done about it.

Neighbor after neighbor complained to the city council that repeated complaints to staff failed to produce results.

They say they were promised that their lawns would be restored, but their front yards have been turned into ponds and mud baths, and the materials used were more like gravel than topsoil, and it’s been poorly engineered.

The residents were assessed as much as $25,000 for the new sewer hookups.

Mayor Patricia Randall said this was the first time they had heard about it and promised action and a personal tour of the area.

Councilmember Chris Burns says its clearly not up to city standards and apologized for the problem.

Residents were told last fall that nothing could be done during the winter, but now that the construction season is well underway, they want to see some action.
