TROWBRIDGE TWP., MI (WKZO-AM/FM) – One person died and three others were injured in a two-vehicle crash that resulted in a truck slamming into several people off the roadway between Gobles and Allegan on Saturday night, Apr. 26.
No names were disclosed by Allegan County Sheriff’s Sergeant Bernard Austhof following the incident around 7:30 PM off of Baseline Road and Hillside Drive, east of M-40. That was where a westbound truck crossed the centerline and sideswiped an eastbound truck. It then lost control, went off of the roadway, flipped over, and struck several people, before coming to rest in a shallow portion of the nearby Baseline Lake.
Two of those people struck were hospitalized, with one passing away from injuries sustained in the incident. The at-fault driver and a passenger in the westbound truck were also hospitalized, while those in the eastbound truck were unhurt. Where the injured persons were taken was also not disclosed.
Austhof said that speed and alcohol did both appear to be factors as the crash remains under investigation.
