EAST LANSING, MI — Michigan State men’s basketball is losing another key component from last year’s Big Ten championship team: Jase Richardson is turning pro.
The standout freshman announced on his social media on Tuesday he is declaring for the NBA Draft, according to media partner WLNS in Lansing.
“I’m extremely grateful to Coach Izzo and the entire Michigan State coaching staff for the opportunity to represent Michigan State Basketball,” Richardson said in his post.
Viewed as a sure fire first-round draft pick by many experts – perhaps as high as top 10 – Richardson averaged 12.1 points per game this season while shooting 49.3% from the field. Richardson, the son of former Spartan Jason Richardson, was named to the Big Ten’s all-freshman team and the all-conference third team this season.
“I wouldn’t be here without the love, sacrifice and support of my family,” Richardson said on social media. “This is an exciting step in my journey, and I’m looking forward to see what GOD has planned for me.”
