LANSING, MI — Powerful storms crossed mid-Michigan early Sunday evening damaging some homes and knocking over trees. Numerous power outages are still dotting the Consumer Energy outage map. Over 160,000 outages are being reported in southern Michigan. Lansing BWL says it has about 600 customers in the dark.
Some are schools have closed today (Monday): Mason, Williamston, Webberville, Leslie and Jackson are among the schools on the closed list.
Consumers Energy crews worked overnight to continue restoring power to customers following severe thunderstorms that hit the Southern half of the Lower Peninsula yesterday evening. Crews in Northern Lower Peninsula continued their 24/7 effort to restore power following extreme ice that caused devastation over the weekend.
Consumers Energy says it’s repair crews are stretched thin. Many were dispatched to northern Michigan to deal with ice storm damage. The company says it has over 600 crews, some from neighboring states of Indiana, Ohio and Illinois, working in the northern and southern restoration response. The severe weather that swept through Sunday evening has left crews responding and they expect the majority of their customers restored by April 1 with the hardest hit areas by April 2.
