FARGO, ND (WKZO AM/FM) – Grant Slukynsky scored in the second overtime as the Western Michigan University men’s hockey team beat Minnesota State 2-1 victory Thursday night in the first round the NCAA tournament. The win was WMU’s second NCAA Tournament victory in program history.
Along with Slukynsky, Liam Valente tallied a power-play goal in the second period.
Hampton Slukynsky was lights out in goal, stopping 28 shots. WMU moved to 31-7-1 overall on the season.
The Broncos will now face Massachusetts Saturday in the Regional Final, although the time hasn’t been announced yet.
Meantime Michigan State fell in the first round of the tournament, falling to Cornell 4-2.
