AUDIO: Trump administration withdraws Fulbright grant for Mexican professor to teach at WMU

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Western Michigan University English professor Allen Webb is disappointed that the Trump administration has withdrawn a Fulbright grant for a professor from Mexico.

Javier Garcia, his wife, and their nine-year-old daughter had been expected to move to Kalamazoo in August, with housing arranged along with her education.

Garcia was to teach with Webb at WMU.

The WMU Climate Change Working Group says the move by the White House will have a wide-ranging impact beyond campus, and WMU student Mia Breznau called the decision “unacceptable.”

She says “it speaks volumes that this administration’s first attack was on our world’s brightest minds” and says they “will not stand for this mistreatment of experts and suppression of knowledge.”
