KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A groundbreaking ceremony will be held Wednesday for a new $27 million, 70-unit affordable senior citizen housing project in Kalamazoo’s Historic Northside.
Developers say The Legacy Senior Living aligns with the City of Kalamazoo’s Master Plan and the Northside Neighborhood Association’s vision, emphasizing community-driven growth.
Southwest Michigan First, in partnership with Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Edison Community Partners, Abonmarche Byce, AVB, Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA), Cinnaire, CPC Mortgage Company (Community Preservation Corporation), Fifth Third Bank, Kalamazoo County Homes for All, Kalamazoo County Government, City of Kalamazoo, and Kalamazoo Community Foundation, will host the groundbreaking ceremony at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.
The project consists of two modern, three-story buildings designed for accessibility and sustainability. The first is at 128 East Frank Street, with 34 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units, with a community room, outdoor gathering space, and beauty salon.
The second building is at 127 East North Street, with 32 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units, with a library, puzzle room, and a shared three-season porch.
Eligibility is based on residents earning 20%–80% of the Area Median Income
