KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Hundreds of people protested outside the Social Security Office in Kalamazoo on Saturday, demanding the federal government not make changes to the program.
Jayne Trombley said the government has no right to touch the money.
Audio PlayerStarting March 31, the Social Security Administration says people will no longer be able to verify their identity over the phone and will need to visit an office in person or authenticate who they are online.
They say it is meant to reduce fraud, but people say that will hurt many older Americans who don’t have internet access or have mobility limitations and can’t make an appointment.
