ST. PAUL, MN (WKZO AM/FM) – Alex Bump delivered the game-winning goal in double overtime to secure the Western Michigan University men’s hockey team’s first ever NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship, with a 4-3 win over Denver.
The Broncos fought back from three goals down for the victory Saturday night.
The win was WMU’s 30th of the season and head coach Pat Ferschweiler’s 100th career victory.
Bump tallied two goals, while Zack Sharp and Tim Washe each had goals of their own. Hampton Slukynsky collected his 15th win of the season.
The win marked WMU’s first Frozen Faceoff Championship in program history.
Western Michigan will learn its NCAA Tournament opponent and location Monday afternoon. The NCAA selection show is set for 3:00 p.m. on ESPNU.
