SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – There were no serious injuries after a stolen vehicle pursuit in South Haven Thursday morning escalated when the suspect intentionally rammed a police patrol car before being taken into custody.
Around 10:20 a.m. the South Haven Police Department received a report of a stolen 2012 GMC Acadia near 1200 Phoenix Street. As officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspect fled, starting the high-speed pursuit.
During the chase police say the suspect deliberately rammed a patrol car to evade capture. A tire deflation device was deployed around County Road 388 and 62nd Street, causing the suspect to lose control of the vehicle and crash.
The driver, a 49-year-old man from the Traverse City area, faces multiple charges, including fleeing and eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, assault on a law enforcement officer, and reckless driving.
The rammed patrol car sustained damage and the stolen vehicle is being processed as part of the ongoing investigation.
