LANSING, MI — Mid-Michigan residents can expect to receive notification of several weather alerts on Wednesday during Michigan’s Severe Weather Awareness Week, according to local emergency preparedness experts.
Local emergency management plans to test the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system on cellphones in Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties and the City of Lansing at 11:59 a.m. on Wednesday (March 19). The alert is expected to be test wording only. You may also hear the outdoor warning (tornado) sirens activate as part of the Statewide Voluntary Tornado Drill following that at 1:00 p.m.
Officials say it’s important to remember that these are only tests, but they say it’s also a good time to develop a safety plan if severe weather threatens your area this spring or summer.
