KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A jury has found a Kalamazoo man guilty of murder in the shooting death of another man in June 2023.
47-year-old Tieshawn Labar Matthews was found guilty of 1st Degree Murder and Felony Firearm charges by a Kalamazoo County Circuit Court jury Wednesday.
The case stems from an incident on July 8, 2023, when Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 700 block of Summit Park Court. When they arrived, they found 17-year-old Coreleon Antonio Gordon suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers administered medical aid and transported Gordon to a local hospital, where he later died from his wounds.
KDPS says witness accounts led officers to Matthews, who was located nearby in possession of the firearm they say was used in the homicide. Investigators determined that the shooting followed an assault reported between the two parties the previous day.
Sentencing has been scheduled for April 21, 2025.
