KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The improvements at Kalamazoo Public Schools is just one reason a group is thinking that the city should have a new nickname: “Education City.”
Audio PlayerIt’s an idea that Vice Mayor Jeanne Hess says they have been knocking around for about a year.
She says between the three colleges, the area’s largest public school system, the Kalamazoo Promise, and soon the new Career and Technical Center, educating is a prime focus.
Audio PlayerShe says education also employs a lot of people here like celery, wood stoves and paper making once did.
Audio PlayerRight now an informal group has been meeting to talk about it. They are working to get everyone on board and if everyone agrees, figure out the best way to launch it.
