KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Saying their calls for fair salaries and respect in the workplace are being ignored, more than 200 residents and physicians at the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D School of Medicine have voted to authorize a strike.
Members of the Resident and Fellow Alliance would still have to give 10 days’ notice before they walk out. A spokesperson for the group says that notice could come within the week.
A statement from the union says their demands include higher salaries, flexibility in time off, and improved educational stipends.
RFA is affiliated with the Michigan branch of American Federation of Teachers.
Just the residents, they are physicians in training. The medical school physicians are not in a union.
