LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist II has not yet said what his future plans are after his term ends at the end of 2026, but there is growing speculation he wants to take is boss’ job.
Sam Robinson of Detroit One Million tells MIRS News that Gilchrist will announce Tuesday that he will seek the Democratic nomination for governor.
If he does announce, he will be the third Democrat in the race along with Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson.
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is running for governor as an independent and Michigan Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt is running as a Republican.
